Seven staff members from the composite door manufacturer Vista Panels are to take part in the Tough Mudder North challenge next month, to raise funds for a colleague’s son, Kurtis. The event is to take place on 10 September. Donations can be made here.
Having been diagnosed with gluten ataxia, a rare condition that causes the immune system to attack part of the brain as a response to gluten ingestion, Kurtis Haley’s speech, memory and ability to walk has been affected by the condition. His gut has been so badly damaged by gluten that antibodies have affected the cerebral part of his brain, resulting in symptoms similar to that of a stroke. Kurtis was diagnosed in 2021, aged 19.
Having heard that Kurtis’ family aims to raise funds to help pay for private speech therapy and additional medical help, the Vista family joined forces to help. All of the proceeds from the team’s participation in Tough Mudder are to go directly towards Kurtis’ rehabilitation and future care.
Vista Panels’ managing director, Keith Sadler, is part of the team that is to complete the Tough Mudder challenge. He said: “At Vista, we’re proud to be taking part in the upcoming Tough Mudder in order to raise funds for Kurtis and his family.
“Our company’s commitment extends far beyond just manufacturing. We also pride ourselves on providing continued support and compassion, not only to our own dedicated team members but also to the wider community.
“Participating in the Tough Mudder North will not only be a physical challenge but will also be a testament to our commitment to stand by our colleagues during times of difficulty. As we approach the challenge, I welcome any contributions, big or small. I’m sure they will make a significant impact on Kurtis’ journey toward recovery. Together, we can make a tangible difference in his life.”
