Valdi, a Cambridgeshire-based joinery specialist, was awarded the British Woodworking Federation (BWF)’s Innovation in Design Award 2022 for its cornerless timber bi-fold door system. The win was announced at a presentation ceremony that took place on 25 November.
Sponsored by Anker Stuy Coatings, the Innovation in Design Award exists to recognise excellence in technical innovation, design and application in joinery product manufacture. The BWF Awards aim to celebrate the outstanding skills and talent in the woodworking and joinery sector, and the milestone achievements of the past year.
Valdi’s cornerless timber bi-fold door system allows a building to open on three sides. The BWF Award judges described the product as breath-taking.
Helen Hewitt, the BWF’s chief executive, said: “There were so many remarkable entries in this year’s Innovation in Design award but Valdi showed our judges something they had never seen before, and they were blown away by it. The BWF Awards allow us to come together and take pride in all that has been achieved over the past year. Our sector has overcome a great deal this year, with supply chain interruption as well as the increase in energy costs and the continued skills shortage. The Awards are a welcome opportunity to celebrate the hard-earned achievements and showcase the skill and technical expertise in the sector.
