Leaders of Unique Window Systems supported this year’s DIY SOS Big Build for Children in Need by donating aluminium double doors towards the construction project. The DIY SOS team built a children’s counselling and therapy centre at Treetops Hospice in Risley, Derbyshire.
“Unique Window Systems has a firm commitment to corporate social responsibility, and we believe it’s important to give something back to the local communities that are home to many of our team, suppliers and customers,” said Mir Patel, Unique Window Systems’ senior manager.
“Our participation in the DIY SOS project at Treetops Hospice fully reflects this. We are delighted to support such an important and worthy venture.”
Jules Kirk, therapeutic services manager at Treetops Hospice, said: “We are absolutely over the moon to have had the DIY SOS team come to Derbyshire to create a brand-new counselling and therapy centre within our grounds in Risley.
“Just like adults, children who have lost someone important can find themselves struggling with a powerful range of emotions which can affect their daily lives and relationships at home and school.
“Annually, we provide over 900 counselling sessions for local children, some as young as seven years old, who are struggling after the death of a loved one.”
The services provided by Treetops Hospice – which include nursing care, emotional support, respite care and bereavement support – are offered free of charge. Every year, the hospice must raise more than £4.3m to meet its running costs; 70% of this sum comes from charitable donations and fundraising events.
Jules, the hospice’s therapeutic services manager, added: “Many of our young clients have experienced unexpected or traumatic bereavements including accidents, suicide and murder. Children are also still feeling the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The DIY SOS The Big Build for Children in Need will make an immeasurable difference to hundreds of children and their families across our local area.”
