The VEKA UK Group was proud to support Burnley MP Gordon Birtwistle’s Prostate Scanner Appeal at Burnley’s recent match against Sheffield Wednesday.
The systems supplier sponsored T-shirts to raise awareness of the appeal, which were worn by the players while they warmed up. The distinctive blue shirts were also worn by volunteers, who did a bucket collection during the match.
The proceeds from the Clarets lottery during the match also went toward the scanner appeal.
VEKA’s head of human resources, Gabriela Hammond, explained: “The T-shirts were a great way to let people know what the collection was for. It made the volunteers easy to spot and, as a result, we’ve been told that a fantastic £4341 was raised on the day. As a company, we were delighted to show our support and raise awareness for such a valuable local cause – but without the generosity of the Burnley fans, it wouldn’t have meant a thing. They’ve really outdone themselves and they should be very proud.”
All money raised by the appeal will go towards buying a replacement prostate scanner for the Urology Department of Burnley General Hospital, to assist with the early detection of prostate and kidney cancers.
