Scot Starkey, who founded Victorian Sliders, has bought the composite building materials company Alvic, which is marketed as ‘the only UK-based extruder of composite building materials’. The business is to offer composite decking, fencing, cladding and other composite products.
Though he still has a major shareholding in Victorian Sliders, Scot sold a partial interest in the company to launch Eurodeck, a new brand of composite building products. While Scot and his team were setting up a new facility for Eurodeck, leaders of BSW Timber Group put Alvic on the market. Scot decided it would be an excellent strategic fit to accompany his plans for Eurodeck, so he bought the company in its entirety.
A new manufacturing facility is to be based in County Laois, southern Ireland, where Scot now calls home. The move has been described as a major investment into a new extrusion facility is set to house 30 extrusion lines and three mixing plants. Scot hopes to create up to 60 new jobs in the local area.
“It has been my intention for some time to enter this exciting market and extrude in southern Ireland to serve the UK and European markets,” said Scot. “It was pure coincidence that Alvic, which would have been our only competitor on the UK mainland, became available. I felt it was an excellent opportunity to enter the market quickly.”
Danny Hague has committed to joining Scot’s new senior management team as group sales director. He brings extensive sales experience to the role, having worked as sales director for Victorian Sliders.
“I had decided to take some time off, explained Danny, “but Scot asked if I’d be interested in joining him. We’ve known each other for many years, and I had thoroughly enjoyed working with Scot, so I didn’t hesitate in accepting the role of group sales director across Alvic and Eurodeck.
“It took some explaining to the wife though, as we had made plans for the coming weeks. But here I am raring to go.” For further information about the business, call Danny on 07467 437 090, or visit the company’s website.
