Modus by Listers has been specified on an 87-plot new build development in Essex, thanks to its low U-values and slim sightlines. Approximately 700 Modus windows, in a mixture of white and coloured foils, are to be manufactured by Listers and installed by Allglass (Anglia) over 14 months from December. Listers’ Gallery 44 composite doors are also to be installed at the development.
Modus was chosen because the local planning department stipulated a 0.8W/m²K U-value, which is a passive house level of performance. “Listers’ new Modus window can achieve passive house levels of performance with a triple-glazed unit in a 75mm frame and a very slim rebate,” explained Ben Friend, Allglass’ contracts manager. But after the products were specified, the planning department relaxed the requirement so that the windows only had to meet a 1.1W/m²K U-value.
“With Modus, we could achieve this with double-glazed unit,” Ben added, “which meant we could save ourselves extra costs.”
Modus by Listers is made using profile from Eurocell. The system design has six equal thermal chambers, and contains between 36% and 72% of recycled materials, helping it to achieve a lower carbon footprint than any other product made in the UK, its creators have said.
A regular installer of Eurocell Logik Windows, Allglass has been a Listers customer for 8 years. The company supplies a range of projects from domestic refurbishment to new build, and from office blocks to schools.
“We work very closely with Listers as we find that their values are closely aligned to ours,” Ben said. “They are always one step ahead of the regulations, and can offer good technical support. We’ve also started buying the Sheerline lantern from Listers, which is a breeze to install, and can achieve lower U-values than many PVC-U alternatives.” Read more about Listers on the fabricator’s website.
