In a company statement, Express Bifolding Doors said it is becoming the very first fabricator in the UK to order the latest version of Emmegi’s 20 axis Quadra CNC.
The next generation +Quadra arrives in the UK at the end of 2024, with the first installation outside of Italy.
The +Quadra has 360° rotary based milling, drilling and tapping on four faces of the profile and 360° rotary cutting blade. It features dynamic counterblocks, for example, which can be programmed to recognise the profiles being selected and automatically adjust and set the vices, without needing to set up individual counterblocks each time. It also has a new head and tail end milling module and cutter unit with variable rotation speed up to 8000rpm, as well as an automatic labelling module which can position the label on three sides of the profile.
Express Bifolding Doors already has a Quadra L1 20 axis CNC installed at its 200,000 ft2 Leeds factory, installed in 2016. However, the company stated that it was looking to upgrade that original CNC and invest in something even quicker and more capable.
Chris Smith, Express Bifolding Doors’ operations director, said: “We’re always looking for ways to improve productivity and stay ahead of the competition. We reviewed the quality cutting and machining centres from all the big names, but there was nothing which comes close to the +Quadra.
“It looks like a game changer for us because it’s got so much more functionality than what we have already, as well as more capacity and faster speeds. We’ll be able to extend unmanned cycles, with no unloading or repositioning needed and as a result massively increase throughput.”
Ian Latimer, Emmegi (UK)’s managing director, added: “Express Bifolding Doors is one of our flagship factories with a vast array of Emmegi machines already, and now it will go up another level with the addition of the +Quadra.
“We took the Express Bifolding Doors production team out to see the +Quadra development at our factory and design centre in Italy and they were won over by the quality and precision the machine is capable of, as well as the individual options available to ensure it meets the very precise requirements of Express Bifolding Doors’ products and profile systems.
“We’re expecting installation to take place at the end of the year, with Express Bifolding Doors up and running at the start of 2025.”
