Euroglaze has reached its £10,000 fundraising goal for the sight loss charity, Retina UK. Bruce Dyer, a local footballing hero, presented the cheque.
Bruce spent five years at Barnsley FC in the late 90s and early 2000s and now spends his time coaching youngsters across Yorkshire. He also runs his own Love Life UK motivational sports camps.
The Euroglaze team set the £10,000 goal to mark the company’s 40th anniversary. The amount was fundraised through activities and events including raffles, fun days, cake sales and a virtual cycling challenge from John O’Groats, in the north of Scotland, to Land’s End, Cornwall.
The sight loss charity Retina UK is especially close to everyone at the company’s heart because it helps to fund vital research into the kinds of eye diseases that caused its managing director, Martin Nettleton, and his brother Simon to gradually lose their sight. Martin said: “We carried on fundraising even during the pandemic because we knew just what an impact it was having on the income of smaller charities such as Retina UK.
“Nicky Park, our sales and customer service administrator, did an amazing job driving the whole effort and encouraging everyone to get involved. I’m incredibly grateful to her and to everyone who supported us – from staff to suppliers, customers and, of course, Bruce, and genuinely delighted to have been able to do our bit to help fund some potentially exciting new treatments.”
