Dekko Window Systems has recruited a new apprentice, strengthening the company’s commitment to upskilling young people and tackling the industry’s skills gap. Liam Birch joined the company as a digital marketing apprentice. He has been tasked with promoting and maintaining the Dekko brand online through social channels by creating unique content that reflects the business and the premium products and services it provides.
Liam’s appointment is part of a wider scheme at Dekko, which takes on young people and trains them up. The company currently employs four apprentices across HR, manufacturing and engineering, and aims to recruit further.
“I’m primarily managing the company’s Swindon Trade Counter Facebook page and Instagram page, said Liam. “I’m also responsible for finding sales leads on the social channels and referring them on to our sales team on a regular basis.”
Kurt Greatrex, Dekko’s sales director, said: “The skills gap is a huge issue facing the industry at the moment.” He went on to predict that the issue will continue to plague glazing businesses “for a long time to come”. He added: “Apprenticeships are invaluable in tackling this ever-growing issue, and strengthening the industry as a whole, while also giving young people the opportunity to learn on the job and develop valuable skillsets.”
