One of the country’s leading aluminium fabricators is said to have ‘hit the ground running’ since returning to business after the Covid-19 shutdown – thanks to investment in new products and machinery.
CDW Systems says that it used the enforced shutdown to look at how it could cater for customer’s increasing needs. Following a phased and controlled reopening, the Gloucester-based business says it is now at full capacity for all its product lines.
Jeremy Phillips, group chairman, said: “Since returning our order intake has been at record levels, particular our commercial doors. We’re also seeing the benefit of introducing new products to our portfolio and this has placed us in a strong position moving forward.”
CDW Systems has added flat roof lights and designer doors from Smart Systems to its range in response to increasing demand from customers.
Providing ‘exceptional’ thermal insulation, light transmission, and noise reduction, the Aliver system has been designed to accept both double and triple glazed units.
Featuring an ‘elegant and unobtrusive’ aluminium frame and a unique, concealed fixing system which is reported to make the rooflight fast and easy to install, CDW says that it creates a contemporary look for any property.
Designer Doors are said to combine the strength and style of aluminium with the versatile options for customisation offered by composite doors. The doors have been successfully tested to PAS 24:2016 Enhanced Security Performance – thanks in part to a 10-point locking mechanism – and boast three adjustable hinges that can withstand 80kg of pressure.
Jeremy said: “Our customers have been asking for roof lights so being able to offer the Aliver rooflight system fills a gap in our portfolio. We were buying in an alternative fabricated system but we’re now fabricating Smart Aliver ourselves and we’re offering set sizes at a quick turnaround in standard colours.
“Premium aluminium front doors are becoming increasingly popular in the domestic market, and our Designer Door range will help installers tap into the increased demand for premium quality aluminium entrance doors.”
With order intake at record levels, CDW Systems says it has invested in a new Italmac Spring 7000 CNC machine which will ‘significantly increase’ its manufacturing capacity, particularly for commercial doors.
The company manufactures commercial doors from Technal, including the Stormframe STII High Traffic aluminium door and the 202 Commercial Door. Jeremy said: “Due to the massive demand we have had on all products, and particularly commercial doors, and the confidence in the market we have, we decided to make the investment in the new CNC machine.
“It has the latest technology built in so it should significantly increase production capacity. After what has been a hugely challenging time, it was important for us to be able to fulfil orders for customers as quickly as possible.”
The busy period has also seen CDW Systems introduce roof lanterns and the Heritage Range to its product offering as it strengthens its reputation as a supplier of quality products, quality service and quality technical support.
Jeremy added: “We had been thinking about this investment for a while, but lockdown allowed us to focus on what we wanted to do and provided us with the opportunity to look at how best to maximise our portfolio.
“We wanted to add something extra for our customers – we haven’t just substituted products we have added additional ones and that has been driven by demand.”
