Central Window Systems has supported an initiative to deliver vital supplies to Ukrainian refugees in Poland. The aid effort was spearheaded by Dave Walters, CEO of West Midlands installer and Central customer, DW Windows.
The full solution PVC-U and aluminium fabricator lent one of its vans to the Help Ukraine Appeal, which will be used to transport much-needed food and medical supplies to Poland. Dave and his four-man team set off at 4am on Monday (21 March), with two vans: the other was donated by contract packing company, Mixtio. The team travelled through the Netherlands, after getting the ferry from Dover, and passing through France and Belgium.
Dave, who collected donations from a local Asda and his three DW Windows showrooms, also set up a JustGiving page to raise funds to help buy further provisions when he’s out there. Dave has raised more than £6,000 via this page.
“I want to do as much as I can for the Ukrainian refugees, centres and Polish organisations,” said Dave, who is a former Royal Marine and ex-firefighter, with contacts in Krakow, Poland. “I’m told that they’re inundated with clothes but need other provisions. So, both vans are full of dry food, sanitary products, baby food, nappies and medical supplies.
“I can only fit so much in, so, while I’m there, I’ll spend donations to buy further supplies from supermarkets, to give to refugee camps and any others who need them. If I can transport people to safety when I’m there, I will.
“I’d like to say a massive thanks to Central Window Systems’ Martyn Elwell and Gary Morton for kindly donating their van for the trip. I’d also like to thank everyone who has supported us and donated so far.”
Martyn Elwell, Central’s sales and marketing director, added: “What Dave is doing is brilliant. We wanted to get involved and show our support, and we were delighted to donate the use of one of our vans to the cause.
“DW Windows are a valued customer. We’d like to wish Dave every success out in Poland, and a safe trip back.” To make a donation and show your support, visit the Justgiving page. To follow Dave’s progress, visit facebook.com/DWWindowsLtd.
