A Plus Aluminium has revealed that sales of its sliding doors rose by 30% in 2023, compared with the previous year, and have more than doubled over the past four years.
The Watford-based fabricator stated that it believes this is down to rising consumer demand, a suggestion backed by data captured by Google trends which shows that searches for ‘aluminium sliding doors’ are up 100% in the past five years.
Jon Palethorpe, joint managing director for A Plus Aluminium, said: “We are seeing sliding door sales eat into bi-fold market share. This would have been extraordinary just a short time ago but now, many homeowners are opting for aluminium sliding doors over bi-folds. This is because they are switching on to the associated benefits – namely maximising the glazed area and minimising the frame.
“Homeowners want to get as much natural light into their homes as possible while creating a seamless transition between inside and out. The slim frames of our aluminium sliding doors, coupled with large glass panels deliver this without compromise. Bi-folds have more frame material and less glass.”
A statement said that while the PlusGlide 47 is the company’s most popular sliding door, volumes have increased right across the range and include the PlusGlide 46 Lift & Slide and PlusGlide Vision.
Jon continued: “There’s no doubt that extensive marketing by Cortizo and big-name competing brands has influenced consumer decision making, and this has directly impacted sales particularly of sliding doors. Homeowners just can’t get enough of the large glass panels and slim frames.
“Our forward order book is already bulging with orders for sliding doors as our trade customers capitalise on the ‘improve, don’t move’ revolution. We also forecast further growth once the property market bounces back, indeed there are signs that this is already starting to happen.”
