The sleek, slimline aesthetic of Stellar aluminium windows and doors, from Epwin Window Systems, was selected for a complex refurbishment of a Grade-II-listed pool house near Crediton, Devon. The Stellar windows and doors were manufactured and installed by Devon and Cornwall Windows.
Adam Page, owner of Devon and Cornwall Windows, explained: “The original pool house had ageing timber windows set onto a dwarf wall, which needed to be replaced. However, the homeowner was keen to create a high-end, functional space that maximised natural light throughout the room. We suggested replacing the existing windows and wall with full-height windows and doors from the Stellar aluminium range, to deliver the light-filled sophisticated space the homeowner specified.”
The brief was particularly challenging, as, due to building’s listed status, full planning and listed building consent was needed. Additionally, the new Stellar products would form three sides of the building, and needed to support an original slate roof, which meant that the structural calculations were critical and required the use of a galvanised steel ring beam to provide the necessary strength.
The Devon and Cornwall Windows team manufactured and fitted a combination of full-height Stellar fixed panes, a five-pane Stellar bi-fold door and a set of Stellar French doors with fixed sidelights. All products were manufactured in a black powder coating, to emphasise the sophisticated, modern aesthetic required.
The installation ran smoothly and the finished result has been transformative. Adam said: “Stellar’s slim profile design allowed maximum light into the pool house. And, by fitting a five-panel Stellar bi-fold door to the east elevation, it has opened up the room completely with a seamless transition to the outdoor pool area. As a result, the pool room is completely transformed and the homeowner is delighted.”

“It’s an easy to fit system too. The bi-fold doors are much quicker to fit than similar aluminium doors, and the pre-gasketed beads eliminate gasket shrinkage and provide a clean neat finish every time.”
