Biggest Atlas Skyroom ever is a winner

Vale Orangeries Skyroom (1)It was a double celebration for Atlas approved installer, Vale Orangeries, when the South Wales based firm installed their very first Skyroom. Not only was their installation at a former school house in the South Wales Valleys the largest Skyroom installation ever, it was also a winner in the coveted Atlas Installation of the Month competition.

The vast 9x3m dual colour Skyroom beat off stiff competition to be the April winner in the competition, which was launched last year to commend the best Atlas orangery, conservatory and rooflight installations. The project impressed the judging panel because of its sheer scale and how it has dramatically transformed the appearance of the property.

The owners of the property had carefully renovated the school house and wanted to replace their tired PVC-U conservatory with a traditional orangery that would span the entire width of the building. Keen to improve the flow of rooms within their home and to maximise the sense of space and light, the owners approached Vale Orangeries to discuss design ideas for the project.

The team presented two options to the customer – a conventional orangery and an Atlas Skyroom. The customer was immediately drawn to the contemporary features of the Skyroom, its realistic orangery appearance and its superior thermal performance, which was essential for such a large, open plan structure.

Vale Orangeries demolished the original conservatory and managed the build, which took around eight weeks to complete. They built the large extension, which features dual colour aluminium windows and bi-folding doors from Atlas’ sister company Customade, and created two openings from the original dining room and kitchen into the new Skyroom. The Skyroom roof was then installed in just two days. With its slimmer sightlines and unique dummy ringbeam design, the Skyroom has improved the quality of light within the property and complemented the period features of the building.

Dean Edmonds, director at Vale Orangeries, said: “This was our first Skyroom installation so we’re very pleased indeed that it was a winning entry.

“Our first experience of fitting a Skyroom was very good and it is certainly a fitter-friendly product that’s fast and simple to install. We’re really proud to have built the biggest ever Skyroom, this installation has definitely set a big precedent for the future!”

Gareth Thomas, sales and marketing director at Atlas Glazed Roof Solutions, added: “This competition continues to attract several high quality entries from across the UK and there are some extremely good Atlas orangery, conservatory and rooflight installations out there. This installation really stood out because of its proportions and its striking impact on the property. Congratulations to Vale Orangeries on a very worthy winning installation.”

Each month, the winning installer will scoop a £200 Screwfix voucher and a £50 Majestic Wine voucher, plus trade industry PR and entry into the Atlas Installer of the Year award finals. All entries submitted with completed installation pictures will receive an Atlas thermal mug.
