New, extra-strong door restrictors

Hardware specialist UAP has launched a new range of extra-strong door restrictors. Designed as an alternative to the traditional door chain, the new door restrictors from UAP allow people to communicate with visitors while preventing entry. This enables occupants to check the identity of visitors and safeguard against forced entry. It is hoped that the feature will increase people’s confidence in answering doors and opening it fully, once they are satisfied that there is no threat.

A robust solution, the extra-strong door restrictors are manufactured from zinc, with a one-hour fire rating. They have been designed by UAP’s in-house product development team to enable ease of use by people with arthritis or restricted hand movement, making the products particularly suitable for elderly and vulnerable people.

Julian Roberts, UAP’s technical services director, said: “Many older people, and those living alone, feel anxious about answering the door without knowing who is calling. This anxiety has increased during the pandemic, when there have been fewer visitors and less social contact.

“The UAP Extra Strong Door Restrictors offer a much more robust defence against forced entry than traditional door chains, with a solid bar that secures the door in an ajar position. They are also less fiddly to use too.”

The UAP Extra Strong Door Restrictor range is recommended for social housing, retirement villages and assisted living environments, as well as private homes. The solution is said to provide a simple and effective way to help residents feel more secure in their homes. The products are available in polished chrome, polished brass and polished satin nickel finishes, to deliver an aesthetically pleasing match with new or existing hardware and home décor choices.
