With the devastating flooding caused by Storm Desmond currently wreaking havoc in Cumbria and other parts of the country, Maco is urging fabricators and installers to be ‘flood aware’.

According to the Environment Agency’s ‘Flood Aware’ campaign (dated 4 November 2015), as many as one in six properties, representing 3.5 million dwellings in the UK, are at risk of flooding from rivers or sea. Flood schemes have protected an extra 177,000 properties in the last four years, with another £2.3 billion being spent over the next six years to reduce the flood risk to 300,000 more properties.

Maco believes that it is essential that people understand the risks that flooding poses to property and personal safety and that they are well informed against any future risk of flooding.

Maco says its R&D department in Austria and Innovation team in the UK have been collating data and facts on the UK’s flood risk for some time, using the evidence as a ‘catalyst’ to develop a ‘secure and completely weathertight’ door solution for commercial and residential properties.

Taking elements from its existing Multi Matic tilt turn system and incorporating those with the CTS Combined door lock, Maco says it has been able to produce a ‘highly effective system’, offering additional perimeter locking around the threshold and hinge side of the door, ensuring water egress is prevented.

Successfully tested to PAS1188-1:2014 (flood protection products and building aperture products), the flood door solution from Maco uses existing product lines, which, says Maco, means anyone who is already using Maco CTS combined door locks and Multi Matic tilt turn can offer this solution from stock.

Patented i.S Security mushrooms hold the perimeter firmly in place but according to Maco, this does not mean that the door is now too stiff to activate. In fact, Maco states that this is an ‘ideal offering’ for ‘the less able and elderly’.
