Pilkington United Kingdom, part of the NSG Group, has become the first glass manufacturer to be awarded the Code for Construction Product Information (CCPI) assessment mark for its UK fire-protection range.
All products in Pilkington UK’s fire-protection range, Pilkington Pyroclear®, Pilkington Pyroclear® Plus, Pilkington Pyrodur®, Pilkington Pyrostop® have achieved the CCPI assessed mark – helping to provide greater confidence to product users that the product information for these products conforms with the CCPI.
This comes as architects and specifiers face increasing pressure to prioritise occupant safety by selecting materials that enhance fire protection.
Introduced in response to the Grenfell tragedy, the CCPI is set up to raise standards in product information management and marketing, and aims to address critical shortcomings in construction product information that have historically contributed to building failures and is expected to meet the needs of the changing regulatory environment under the new Building Safety Regulator.
The independent third-party assessment aims to enhance the accuracy, transparency, and reliability of product information, fostering positive change across the construction industry.
The rigorous assessment process encompasses five key stages: a leadership and culture survey, management systems evaluation – together as an ‘organisational assessment’, product information submission for a specific products set, and assessment of that information against the CCPI.
Conformance requires adherence to eleven clauses of the Code addressing areas such as responsibility for product information, clarity in performance claims, and product information management competency.
Following its success, Pilkington UK plans to expand CCPI assessment to other product lines, further demonstrating its commitment to continually deliver improved product information and marketing, all to spur innovation and drive positive change in the industry as part of its makechange™ philosophy.
Phil Brown, Technical Advisory Service Manager at Pilkington UK, said: “Fulfilling CCPI assessment for our Fire Protection glass range is a significant milestone for Pilkington UK and represents a major advancement for the glass sector as a whole, setting a higher standard for clear and accurate product information.
“For architects and specifiers, having clear and trustworthy information is vital. Product information carrying the unique CCPI assessment mark helps to give them greater confidence to make informed choices which not only benefits individual projects but also helps raise the bar for the entire built environment. The CCPI is playing a pivotal role in driving up standards in product information and marketing and facilitating positive culture change. We’re proud to be working proactively with the CCPI to raise standards in our product information management and marketing.”
Amanda Long, Chief Executive at CCPI, said: “We’re delighted that Pilkington UK’s fire-protection range has become CCPI Assessed – helping to provide greater confidence to product users that the product information adheres to the CCPI. Ultimately, we are on a mission to drive a step-change in product information management and marketing. Ultimately, we aim to move the industry to a place where product information is clear, accurate, up-to-date, accessible and unambiguous”.
Leading contractors, developers, and housebuilders are backing the CCPI, pledging to preference collaboration with suppliers and manufacturers who have obtained CCPI assessment for their product information. This includes Morgan Sindall, which has recently signed a supply collaboration with Pilkington UK.
Graham Edgell, Group Director of Procurement and Sustainability at Morgan Sindall said: “Clear, accurate product information is essential for building safely and responsibly and becoming a CCPI supporter only gives us greater confidence in the materials we’re specifying.
“Pilkington UK securing CCPI assessment against its fire-resistant range* shows their dedication to providing dependable product information. This kind of leadership from our strategic suppliers is exactly what the industry needs to build trust and deliver safer, higher-quality projects.”
