Launched just six months ago, Super Spacer Alpha has won Manufacturing Innovation of the year in Insider’s Made in the Midlands Awards.
The new warm edge flexible spacer bar, manufactured by Edgetech UK, took the top spot for innovation.
“To win for a brand new product is superb,” said Alan Fielder, director of sales and marketing,” who collected the winning trophy at the award ceremony on 20 May.
“Super Spacer Alpha’s innovative design came through reverse engineering Super Spacer. We developed a new profile shape, creating the most thermally efficient spacer bar. The design is set to provide major benefits to customers and manufacturers using it can make highly energy efficient units without any increase in cost.”
Super Spacer Alpha is said to offer improved performance and Edgetech reports that it already has advance orders valued at £1 million a year.
With strong competition for the award, the judges wrote: ‘Coventry based Edgetech’s latest innovation is the most thermally efficient insulated glass unit spacer bar in the world, giving customers up to 66% increase in productivity and 20% reduction in sealant usage. The judges were delighted to see so many companies putting innovation at the heart of their businesses. But Edgetech’s work in the glazing industry gave it the real edge.’
Edgetech’s marketing manager, Charlotte Davies, joined Alan to collect the coveted prize from host Declan Curry at the NEC’s Hilton Metropole at the awards ceremony on Wednesday 20 May.
