Consumer feels the benefits of Smartglass Dynamic

As temperatures soared earlier this summer, reaching around 30ºC in some parts of the UK, consumer Haydon Edwards was reportedly ‘one of the lucky few’ to experience the benefits of Smartglass Dynamic’s self-tinting glass technology.

Thanks to the installation of this recently launched glass in his lantern roof, solar gain in the room is minimised, achieving an ‘acceptable temperature’ in which to sit during the early afternoon sun. By the evening, the glass reverts back to a clear state, as the surface temperature falls.

Each panel reacts independently of one another due to the position of the sun, keeping ‘internal temperatures low and excessive glare to a minimum’.

According to Mr Edwards, the new glass also helps eliminate sun glare on television screens and ‘preserves the nature of furnishings and fabrics’. He is reportedly one of the first consumers in the UK to adopt a ‘Smartglass Dynamic living environment’ via a test installation and urges others to see it in action.

Jason McCabe, commercial and site director for Clayton Glass, said: “This lantern roof case study from Mr Edwards is further evidence of the fact that this ground-breaking, self-tinting glass technology works in-situ. In time, we fully expect forward thinking installers to join us in helping to bring to market this dynamic glass revolution, particularly in showroom environments.”
