West Lothian-based window and door manufacturers Window Supply Company (WSC) will pedal 2117 miles – the equivalent of cycling from Lapland to Whitburn – on stationary bikes to raise much-needed funds for The Whitburn Community Development Trust.
The fundraising initiative began on 2 December and will continue until the distance is complete. The WSC team must complete the journey by 20 December before their head office and trade counters close for the festive season.
WSC will be raising vital funds for The Whitburn Community Development Trust, a charity that supports the local community where the company’s head office and manufacturing facility are based. The funds raised will support the incredible work the Whitburn Community Development Trusts does which includes, The Community Support Hub, The Community Fridge and the Community Garden as well as supporting the children’s annual galaday.
In a push to raise awareness of the event locally, WSC has issued an open invitation to volunteers within the Trust to take part in the event as well as asking the local boys football team the company sponsors, Whitburn FCA 2009’s, to take part in the event.
As part of the initiative WSC trade counter teams will also be collecting nonperishable food items, personal care products and household cleaning items to support local food banks in their trade counter communities in Lincoln, Manchester, Sheffield, Edinburgh, Livingston, Bellshill, Kilmarnock, Dundee, Aberdeen and Inverness.
Barry Duncan, managing director, Window Supply Company says: “The work the Whitburn Community Development Trust does is crucial in providing vital services for the local community and we are on a mission to raise as much money as possible to support the charity. The services offered by the Trust have increased phenomenally over the years and as a local business we want to do as much as we can to ensure the charity can continue to offer these services.”
David Macdonald, community development worker at The Whitburn Community Development Trust comments “We appreciate the Window Supply Company team undertaking the sponsored cycle from Lapland to raise vital funds for Whitburn Community Development Trust. The funds raised will go a long way to ensure our projects can continue to reach and support as many people as possible within our town.”
