NorDan UK, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of high-quality windows and doors, is building on its 2023 growth by expanding into Wales with a dedicated new headquarters and showroom in Cardiff.
NorDan UK will target a range of potential customers, from private new build developments and retrofit schemes, through to smaller self-build and DIY projects. Because Wales has hundreds of miles of rugged coastline, NorDan’s products will be perfect as they are designed for tough Scandinavian conditions.
A major focus of the new expansion will be working with social housing providers in Wales as they access £270 million worth of investment from the Wales government to upgrade affordable homes in the country.
The investment is part of the Wales Housing Quality Standards (WHQS) scheme, which aims to improve the living conditions of residents, and the Optimised Retrofit Programme (ORP) in Wales, which focuses on retrofitting homes with energy-efficient technologies that reduce carbon and improve energy performance.
By refurbishing their housing stock, NorDan UK says social landlords in Wales could lead the way in helping the country meet its targets to reduce its carbon output, part of UK-wide plans for all social landlords to ensure Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) ratings of ‘C’ by 2030.
Lou Johnson, NorDan UK’s Regional Director for Wales and West of England, who is heading up the Cardiff office in Copse Walk, said: “With the Welsh government’s clear commitment to improving energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions in social housing, associations will need support in identifying the best and most cost-effective solutions for their residents.
“Our new office in Cardiff will enable us to better support housing associations across Wales and contribute to the creation of more sustainable and comfortable homes for residents.”
Demand for NorDan UK’s products from affordable housing owners and developers in England and Scotland has soared in recent years as providers strive to meet the UK’s net Zero targets. Ten of the twelve major G15 social landlords in London are now NorDan UK customers.
NorDan UK’s window systems reduce the embodied and operational carbon from homes, they deliver long-term cost savings due to their durability and help keep homes warmer, thereby reducing energy costs for tenants.
Johnson adds: “We understand the vital role that high-quality windows play in the overall mix of improvements to all housing, both social and private. By establishing a presence in Wales we aim to deliver tailored solutions that meet the specific needs of landlords, developers and homeowners.”
Founded in Norway almost 100 years ago the company now has 12 factories across the UK and more than 2,200 employees, with project management offices in Exeter, Gloucester, Birmingham, Manchester, Livingston, Aberdeen and Inverness, and now Cardiff.
