Leaders of Rapierstar hosted a golf day last month to support the charity GM Fundraising, and its programme of activities to raise money for Hope House Children’s Hospices. Representatives of the window and door fastener specialist hosted a one-day practice session at the Astbury Golf Club in south Cheshire on 13 September.
Many who played at Astbury are set to participate in GM Fundraising’s Ryder-Cup-style challenge in Quinta do Lago, Portugal next year – the GMF Cup. This gives keen amateur golfers in the fenestration sector an opportunity to take part in a competition that closely replicates the famous battle between the US and Europe, while at the same time raising vital funds for Hope House Children’s Hospices. The last GMF Cup in 2021 raised over £41,000 for the charity. Leaders of GM Fundraising are hoping for even more next year, business representatives have said.
The day was also an opportunity for the four teams of golfers to celebrate Rapierstar’s 30th year in business. Some of the players having longstanding relationships with the company. The day rounded off with dinner at nearby Alderley Edge.
Taking the honours on the day was Team 1, with Russell Yates of Alufold Direct, David Stockwell of Business Micros, Joe Hague of Window Machinery and Rapierstar’s Kev Jennings showing the rest of the field how it is done. Nearest the flag was Jon Randles, head of procurement and supply chain management at Gap. Business Micros’ David took the prize for the longest drive.
Gary Morton, GM Fundraising’s chair, said: “A big thank you to the Rapierstar team for putting on another great event. The sun shone for us all day, everybody really enjoyed their golf and GM Fundraising received much appreciated donations from many of the participants.”

We are delighted that we can continue to support GM Fundraising in this way. I look forward to supporting Gary and the organisation further by taking part in the GMF Cup next year.

Volunteers of Hope House Children’s Hospices aim to ensure that no one should face the death of a child alone. It costs £6.5m every year to run its services and 86% of this is spent on care. Over 95% of Hope House’s annual costs are met through charitable donations and GM Fundraising is its largest single donor.
