Target Windows has more than quintupled its £500 fundraising goal for Anthony Lockley, a friend of the business who has motor neurone disease (MND). Ongoing fundraising efforts during the first half of this year, including a mountain climb in July, contributed to the Staffordshire-based window and door firm donating a cheque for £2,769.
The was collected via a dedicated JustGiving page and at the company’s three sites – showrooms based at Stone and Uttoxeter and its headquarters at Meir Heath. The funds were raised to support Anthony, a friend of the family business’ owners and directors, Jane Basnett and Mick Tune, and is set to offer Anthony’s family a better quality of life through physiotherapy aids, equipment, care and house adaptations as they learn to live with MND.
In addition to the money raised, the company has also installed a new front door at Anthony’s family home, which has an approved low-access threshold. This door was kindly donated by Central Window Systems, Target’s main supplier of windows and doors.
Mick, Target Windows’ director, said: “We have known Anthony and his family for a long time. He is a much-loved member of the community and a truly decent stand-up guy, so to learn the news that he has developed this scary and unforgiving condition was heartbreaking. He has worked hard all his life to bring up his family of two daughters and a wonderful son who has Down’s syndrome. All he’s ever done is work hard to give them a start in life.
“We wanted to try and ease the pressures that a life-changing diagnosis like this can bring and we’re incredibly humbled by the response from the community in supporting the cause. The generosity of our customers, staff, colleagues, friends and the local community has been overwhelming especially during such difficult times. It just goes to show once again that we are and always will be a community that cares.”
The company’s fundraising efforts concluded when a team took on the National Three Peaks Challenge, scaling the highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales – Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon – in under 24 hours. The dedicated team of employees completed the challenge in 23 hours and 18 minutes. The firm has closed its JustGiving page but you can donate to support Anthony by visiting one of the business’ showrooms.
