Independent hardware distributor, Sealco, recently held a ‘CE Marking for Timber’ seminar, for timber window and door manufacturers.
More than 30 customers from the timber industry and local councillors attended the event, which included advice and a presentation from UKAS accredited laboratory and Notified Body for CE marking, Build Check.
“CE marking has been a hot topic for joinery companies since changes to the laws were announced,” said Alan Malcolm, sales director at Sealco Scotland. “Despite the 1 July 2013 deadline coming and going almost eight months ago, there was still some confusion around the topic and what needed to be done to comply with CE marking law.
,“With this in mind, we got in touch with Build Check, to give a seminar specially created for timber window and door manufacturers, to offer practical advice on how to comply with the new CE mark regulation.”
At the event, Richard Bate, technical director at Build Check, gave an in-depth presentation on CE marking, before an afternoon break-out session, where visitors had the opportunity to ask questions about CE marking for timber products on a one-to-one basis.
Speaking about the event, Drew Kidd from Falkirk Council, said: “The seminar has clarified a few points for me, including testing for safety devices, which is something that could, quite easily, be missed. It has been a really well put together presentation and interesting to hear the questions that other businesses were asking too.”
